Flying Dreams
If you're a keen private pilot I bet on holiday you've tried to hire a plane and stooge around your choosen piece of paradise I certainly have but how sucessful have you been?
In my case I've had mixed results, the US is generally good, the Carrabean Islands not a chance, Gibralter good unless you want to land in Spain. And if you want to do anything a little bit more daring that like mountain flying you'll need some help as this is specialised stuff and no one is sensibly going to hire you a plane and let you loose unless you are extremly experienced and qualified for example to 'hit the mountains flying', whoops bad pun!
Well this blog's objective is to discuss the options, discuss where you can and can't get the sort of dream flying you might want.
Let me get you taste buds going with what I do down here in New Zealand, one of the worlds most desirable holiday destinations.
It all started with me coming here on holiday in 2003, yes the first thing I did was to try to hire a plane, I suceeded but with a local safety pilot. One flight into the mountains told me I had to do some more of this. Three months later I was living in New Zealand, family and all.
The flying went full time with enrollment for a CPL,MULTI IR and instructor rating. Now I can fly anywhere here and thats opened the doors to help others. More details in my next blog soon
